Savanna from Lion DAO is a token launchpad created in partnership with BIG Labs. Savanna aims to make it easy for projects to launch tokens with all the support they need, and easy for individuals to find and support the projects they believe in.
With Savanna's lockdrop mechanism, new projects on Terra and Osmosis can raise operational funds and launch tokens with established liquidity.
Individual users can explore these different projects, aka "safaris" on the Savanna, and choose to support their favorite ones by contributing and locking up liquidity. In return, users receive an LP token, or a position for later distribution.
For individual users, lockdrops serve as modified airdrops.
In a lockdrop, a user locks up one type of token for a specific period of time. In return, they receive either LP (liquidity pool) tokens, or a position in the locked funds. For example, you may want to support a safari on Savanna, and you choose to lock up $USDC. Later on, you receive both that $USDC and a portion of the new token after it launches.
The tokens you supply are then locked in a smart contract, and your return is determined on a pro-rata basis — the more and the longer you lock your tokens, the more tokens you receive in return.
For new projects, lockdrops serve as a solution to some of the biggest challenges in launching a new token: achieving accurate price discovery, bootstrapping liquidity, and raising operational funds for the team.
Offering participants future tokens for supplying and locking up those initial funds attracts liquidity and support from interested users. Moreover, users who lock tokens to support projects end up having "skin in the game," and are more invested in the project's future successes.
Savanna offers an easy, no-code solution to teams looking to launch well-funded projects on Terra and Osmosis.
